About
Coastal Music Culture explores the many ways music and coastal places meet. We cover sounds, traditions, instruments, songs and local scenes, while resisting the easy idea that every shoreline has one defining soundtrack.
What belongs here
Our subject is music in relation to coastal life: how a place may shape a musical texture, how a tradition travels and changes, or how a local scene makes room for sound. We move between listening, songcraft, instruments and cultural context. The coast is a starting point, not a claim that all coastal music is alike.
Who we write for
This publication is for curious listeners, musicians and readers who want more than a genre label or a scenic setting. You do not need specialist training to follow along. We explain terms where they matter and keep the focus on choices a reader can hear, compare or think about.
How we approach it
We favour specific questions over sweeping claims. We separate interpretation from established context, avoid treating a tradition as timeless, and make room for differences between places and communities. When a subject calls for more context than a short piece can provide, we say so rather than pretending one example speaks for an entire coast.
